»Haydn-Spaß mit Eulenspiegeleien«
Getting »the audience in the concert hall laughing buoyantly« was one of the objectives Richard Strauss set himself as he composed his fantastic tone poem »Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks«. He also displays a waggish sense of humour in his cheeky burlesque: a pianistic prank that requires something of a juggling technique. Haydn also liked to have some fun. His D major Concerto explores a great number of musical ideas. He delighted in playing tricks on inattentive listeners, so try not to get caught out by the surprise effects in his »Military Symphony«!
