Symphoniker Hamburg / Sylvain Cambreling
Arnold Schönberg: Erwartung / Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique
Fantastic orchestral showpiece
To bring the season to a close, chief conductor Sylvain Cambreling conducts two absolute milestones of music history iin the Laeiszhalle: the first part of the programme consists of a concert version of Arnold Schönberg’s one-act, expressionist monodrama »Erwartung« – one of the key works of modern music.
It is followed by a truly furioso finale –for both the concert and the entire season: with his »Symphonie fantastique«, depicting »episodes in the life of an artist«, Hector Berlioz was way ahead of his time, laying the foundation stone for Romantic programme music and thus for numerous works in today’s repertoire. Both Schönberg’s expressive style and Berlioz’s bravura showpiece offer the conductor and the large orchestra the chance to present themselves in top form one last time before the summer break.
