Symphoniker Hamburg / Stanislav Kochanovsky
»Reinste Seligkeit« / »Sheer Bliss«
Tchaikovsky’s Opus 35 is the gold standard in violin virtuosity. Although it is today one of the most popular violin concertos of all, it was sceptically received by contemporaries. Critics also responded »sourly« to Rachmaninov’s Third Symphony. In defiant spirit, he claimed that the work’s quality and worth would be recognised 50 years later. And indeed, both works had suffered an injustice – they are amazingly colourful conglomerations, full of evocative and catchy motifs.
