Symphoniker Hamburg / Jeffrey Tate
»London, My Love«: Lambert / Elgar / Williams
The chimes of Big Ben in Vaughan Williams’ Second Symphony leave no room for doubt: the work is a homage to London, the metropolis on the Thames, its sounds, its vitality … and the November fog. Jeffrey Tate may be presenting a programme of music exclusively from his native country, but Elgar’s five-part song cycle »Sea Pictures« – interpreted by the English mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston – exudes a maritime mood and a longing for distant places. And the »Horoscope Suite« by Vaughan Williams’ student Constant Lambert even takes the audience into space.
