»Mysterium«: Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8
Eight French horns and four tubas! Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony – his last – is beyond question momentous. The substantial brass sounds of this musical monolith take listeners on a journey through distressing depths to magnificent summits.
Principal Conductor Jeffrey Tate, an acknowledged expert of music from the turn of the 19th century, returns to Bruckner at regular intervals, the last of which was his Seventh. In this concert the Symphoniker Hamburg also performs the symphony, which the composer named a »mysterium«.
