Symphoniker Hamburg / Guillermo García Calvo
New Year’s Eve Concert: Beethoven’s »Ninth«
The word »tradition« does not do it justice: the Symphoniker Hamburg’s custom of bringing each year to a close with a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (always in a fresh interpretation thanks to new conductors), is more of an unalterable fact. Something you can rely on. Just as Beethoven, in his last and greatest symphony, concentrates all his creative forces and unites them to achieve a new splendour, we pause at the end of the year to consider what has been achieved – and hope that »All men shall be brothers«.
