Stockhausen: »Hymnen«
Hamburg International Music Festival
Karlheinz Stockhausen helped develop purely electronic music as an art form, and it fascinated him and inspired him to experiment from the outset. His composition »Hymnen« (Anthems) from the mid-1960s follows this direction too: it’s a kind of musical collage that combines some 40 national anthems and enriches these with original electronic sounds. At the performance in the resonanzraum in St. Pauli, Kathinka Pasveer is responsible for the sound direction. She was a close confidante of Stockhausen’s and an interpreter of his work as long as he lived.
