Silvesterkonzert / New Year’s Eve Concert / Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra
Ustvolskaya / Mozart / Bach / Mozart
Mozart! His music has enchanted thousands and will continue to do so for centuries to come. Carl Gustav Carus, 1832: »How happily each day should be extoled in which one receives the opportunity once again to plunge into the ether of beauty. Oh, Mozart – that is the conception of a thought. It hovers in the air – which disperses into infinite space – like a beautiful cloud. But how high dares the aeronaut explore in this infinite space – therein lies the power of flight. This is what Mozart achieves in music like no one else.«
On New Year’s Eve, the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, soprano Christina Gansch and alto Nadezhda Karyazina present Mozart’s motet »Exsultate, jubilate« and Johann Sebastian Bach’s cantata »Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen«.
In addition, »Prayer«, the Fourth Symphony by Russian composer Galina Ustvolskaya, who died 10 years ago, is performed – one of the most important spiritual works of the twentieth century.
Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 sends the audience into the New Year »in high spirits and with a healthy joy of being«.
