Salvador Sobral
May 2017 – an inconspicuous jazz musician from Portugal walks on to the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev. He sings a jazz ballad in Chet Baker style, and wins the hearts of millions – without any dancers or a laser show or the razzmatazz typical of the Eurovision. With »Amar Pelos Dois« Salvador Sobral, who was born in Lisbon in 1989, won the Eurovision Song Contest for Portugal for the first time, garnering the highest score ever awarded in the competition’s history. The charismatic singer can now be heard in Germany and Switzerland in spring 2019 together with his jazz trio.
