Rufus Wainwright
Elbphilharmonie Summer / International Summer Festival Kampnagel
Rufus Wainwright, one of the great male vocalists, composers and songwriters of his generation and a composer spanning both pop and classical genres, returns to Hamburg for an exclusive concert with intimate songs. Having played at Kampnagel as well as the Laeiszhalle in recent years, Wainwright will perform selected songs from »Rufus Does Judy«, his Grammy nominated tribute to Hollywood actress, jazz singer and camp icon Judy Garland, for the first time in Germany. Accompanied by pianist Mark Hummels for the »Judy Songs«, he will extend the show with a solo show with repertoire from his over two decades-long career, which includes the release of eight studio albums, three DVDs and three live albums, as well as collaborations with artists such as Elton John, Robbie Williams and director Robert Wilson.
Wainwright is currently composing his second opera, which will premiere in Toronto in the autumn of 2018. His acclaimed first opera »Prima Donna« was recorded by the BBC Symphony Orchestra for Deutsche Grammophon, which also released his most recent album »Take All My Loves – 9 Shakespeare Sonnets«. This features adaptions of nine Shakespeare Sonnets and guest appearances by singer Florence Welch and soprano Anna Prohaska, among others. Enough material for a glamorous night with and by an exceptional artist.
