Rhiannon Giddens
»You’re the One«
Good old folk stories
According to US radio station NPR, Rhiannon Giddens is one of the 25 most influential female musicians of the 21st century. And American Songwriter magazine claims that she is one of the most important musical minds currently walking the planet. Giddens really does boast a unique voice in the American folk scene. The two-time Grammy Award winner and fantastic banjo player now presents a new programme with her band at the Elbphilharmonie.
The North Carolina musician Rhiannon Giddens has long enjoyed a high-profile fanbase that includes names such as T-Bone Burnett, Bob Dylan, Tom Jones and Elvis Costello. However, her favourite musical companion is the Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi. With Turrisi, Giddens dives deep into the world of American music – from blues, jazz and Cajun to country, bluegrass and rock. Irish Gaelic influences also often shimmer through – which is no surprise considering that she now lives on the emerald isle.
