The Art of Dramatic Expression
Misfortune and suffering are closely linked to the challenges that life brings, as we are unequivocally reminded in the year 2020. Solidarity and lockdown, fear and hope, longing and fulfilment, joy and sorrow, light and darkness: these are the ingredients from which music is made. In opera, the great dramas find expression in theatrical perfection, while in piano music it is first and foremost specific nuances and changes of harmony that conjure up images and colours in our mind’s eye. In tonight’s recital, Ragna Schirmer presents two masters of the art of dramatic expression: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Frédéric Chopin.
