Quatuor Diotima
Georg Friedrich Haas • 1. Internationales Musikfest Hamburg
Description
»A more competent team for contemporary string quartet music than Quatuor Diotima is impossible to imagine. The word »perfect« is inadequate to describe the quality of their ensemble playing.« Having left such an impression at the Hamburg Festival »Lux aeterna« in February 2013 – as quoted above by the Hamburger Abendblatt reviewer – Quatuor Diotima could not fail to be part of the first Hamburg International Music Festival. The four French musicians once again present a fascinating programme. In his quartet the young Czech composer Miroslav Srnka traces the smallest echoes of the past in the brain, which come together to form memory. Georg Friedrich Haas, this year´s composer in residence of the Elbphilharmonie Konzerte, turns his focus inward in his second string quartet, producing a meditative and sometimes almost dizzying impact, whilst Alexander von Zemlinsky´s quartet is suffused with late-romantic impulsiveness – his reverence of Mahler (and also for Mahler´s wife Alma) expressed in every note.
