Pussy Riot
»Riot Days« – Punk meets Posh
Ever critical of the regime, the political punk group from Moscow attained global notoriety in 2012 with their »Punk Prayer« in Moscow‘s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. That protest was followed by an internationally condemned court case, which ended in three of the women involved being sentenced to two years each in a labour camp. The collective‘s project »Riot Days« is based on the book of the same name by the activist Maria Alyokhina, in which she tells her own story about being a performer with Pussy Riot. This piece – a cross-over of concert, rally and theatre – deals with coming to terms with this experience, life in a Russian camp and the struggle against repression. Electric sounds, chanting and live music tell a story of resistance, repression and revolution.
