Gondwana Records was founded in 2008 by the trumpeter, composer and producer Matthew Halsall, and has since become one of Europe’s most important independent labels. Originally intended as a label for the local jazz scene in Manchester, Gondwana Records has since grown into an international record label. Tonight’s concert in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall gives us a look at two Gondwana artists: the minimalists of the Portico Quartet, and Polish pianist and composer Hania Rani. Matthew Halsall, the head of the label, also appears on stage and presents his unique brand of spiritual jazz.
