Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lambert Orkis could have celebrated their pearl wedding last year, if they were married. Of course, they are not actually married, but perhaps 30 years performing together come close to that. After all, there has been hardly been a year since 1988 when the German violinist and the American pianist did not go on tour together. It is true that the Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano often featured on their programmes. But when music is of such quality, and in 2020 is a perfect fit with Beethoven’s anniversary year, then it is definitely the right choice for this top-class chamber music recital. It will be interesting to see whether their interpretations have changed over the years.
