Pierre-Laurent Aimard / Piano Recital
Works by György Kurtág and Franz Schubert
Time travel
For almost half a century, the Hungarian composer György Kurtág has been one of Pierre-Laurent Aimard’s closest friends. »I have always had the feeling that he embodies the essence of music«, Aimard says. Aimard now combines selected piano works from Kurtág’s huge collection »Játékok« (Games) with dances by Franz Schubert.
The pianist has been exploring Kurtág’s »Játékok«, an ongoing collection of around 300 short pieces, since 1978. That was the year he got to know Kurtág in Budapest and the two played pieces from »Játékok« together. Among these works, many of which are dedicated to various composers, there is also a »Hommage à Schubert«. And when Aimard now blends some of Schubert’s 450 dances with Kurtág’s intimate and intense piano miniatures, the audience is transported to a wonderful soundscape of timeless beauty.
