Pianomania: Cédric Tiberghien
Debussy / Szymanowski / Anderson
Cédric Tiberghien is one of those pianists who embody the saying: »Art comes from skill«. Ever since his childhood, he has been obsessed by his instrument, spending many hours playing every day even when touring.
He made his big breakthrough in 1998, when he won the main prize and five special prizes at the prestigious Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition. Since then, he has been in great demand worldwide – for solo recitals and as a chamber musician and concert soloist, including in Hamburg as a guest of the Philharmonic State Orchestra.
For the »Pianomania« series, Cédric Tiberghien has chosen Debussy’s last great piano piece, the »Douze Études«, along with the virtuosic Études Op. 18 by Bartók and the Études of the British composer Julian Anderson, all of which make reference to Debussy. While Bartók broke free from his role model Debussy with his opus 18, Anderson’s Études are seen as a homage to the French composer.
The programme is completed by two étude cycles by the Polish composer Karol Szymanowski, a highly praised CD recording of which won Tiberghien a »Diapason d’Or«.
