Works that tell stories
Peter Ruzicka, who recently performed his world premieres of »Benjamin« and »Requiem« with the Hamburg Philharmonic at the Staatsoper and in the famous »Michel« church, presents a fabulous concert programme inspired by Romantic dramatists, ancient Greek instruments, alchemical secrets and the fictional past of the »Star Wars« cosmos. Right at the centre of it all is his composition »Aulodie« starring the eminent oboist Albrecht Mayer, who also performed as the soloist at the premiere in 2011. The work travels through seven scenes, opening up the space for »sound speeches« and situations that venture to emotional extremes. The title of his »perhaps most ’novel-like’ work«, as Ruzicka himself describes it, is a reference to singing with an aulos accompaniment – a constellation often heard on special occasions in ancient Greece.
