Philharmonic Chamber Music Recital
Holst / Thieriot / Hurník
Quintets through the ages
This programme juxtaposes soft wind timbres with the piano. Mozart’s Quintet KV 452 served as a technical and aesthetic model for Beethoven’s Quintet Op. 16, in which the ambitious composer experimented with wind instruments. Around 100 years later, Gustav Holst wrote his Quintet Op. 3, in which he expresses his love of early music. A wind quintet by the Hamburg composer Ferdinand Thieriot and »fusion music« by the contemporary Czech composer Lukáš Hurník round off the programme.
