In the Baroque era, the violin was regarded as the instrument whose sound came closest to the human voice.  So it was an obvious idea to tell stories in instrumental form, in the manner of a passionate speech.

Michael Fürst tells these stories on the harpsichord, accompanied by the string section of the Philharmonic State Orchestra. In cooperation with the harpsichord and the cello, the violin was also allowed to represent an entire orchestra from the 18th century onwards: the new sonata style replaced the Baroque concerto à la Vivaldi, with its orchestra and soloists, by an ensemble of three or more members, where the cello and harpsichord performed the function of the basso continuo.
