Philharmonia Orchestra / Paavo Järvi
Beethoven / Rachmaninov / Prokofiev
Star Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi returns to the Elbphilharmonie with a programme of German and Russian music. He is joined by the Philharmonia Orchestra from London, and American violin sensation Hilary Hahn for a performance of works by Beethoven, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov. As an experienced and multi-award-winning Beethoven conductor, Paavo Järvi is on very familiar territory with the »Coriolan Overture«.
In his Violin Concerto No. 1, Sergei Prokofiev drew inspiration from Viennese Classicism. It has remained one of Hilary Hahn’s favourite works since the early days of her career, and she has continued to develop as an interpreter of the piece. The final work in this multifaceted concert is Sergei Rachmaninov’s sweeping Second Symphony, which is regarded as his most important orchestral work.
