Peter Gregson
»Recomposed: Bach – The Cello Suites«
Three hundred years after they were composed, Johann Sebastian Bach’s solo cello suites are still among the best-known and -loved works in the classical music repertoire. Award-winning Scottish cellist and composer Peter Gregson has reinterpreted them in a surprising new version, producing an in-depth modern remake.
For six years, nothing was heard from Deutsche Grammophon’s acclaimed »Recomposed« series. Artists as different as Matthias Arfmann and Carl Craig, Jimi Tenor and Matthew Herbert had recorded exciting new arrangements of important classical works for the label. »Recomposed« had its peak in 2012 with a Max Richter album that later received an Echo Klassik award – after which the series was discontinued indefinitely. Now it’s being revived with the release of »Recomposed by Peter Gregson: Bach – The Cello Suites«.
