Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia / Víkingur Ólafsson / Sir Antonio Pappano
Prokofjew / Ravel / Sibelius – Please note the change of artist
Jazz rhythms and images of nature
For health reasons, Martha Argerich unfortunately has to take a break at the moment and is therefore not available for this concert. Thankfully, Víkingur Ólafsson has spontaneously agreed to take over the piano part.
»The new superstar of classical piano«. »Iceland’s Glenn Gould«. When it comes to Víkingur Ólafsson, the press is not sparing with praise. So it is all the more gratifying that the likeable pianist is now standing in for the ailing Martha Argerich at the Elbphilharmonie. Together with the top Italian orchestra Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, he will perform Maurice Ravel’s lively and jazz-inspired Piano Concerto in G major. This light-footed masterpiece is framed by Sergei Prokofiev’s charming first symphony, the Symphonie classique, and a late Romantic masterpiece inspired by overwhelming images of nature – Jean Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony.
