Christoph von Dohnányi ist leider erkrankt. Kurzfristig eingesprungen ist Zdenek Mácal, der nun die Konzerte am 29. und 30. Oktober mit einem leicht geänderten Programm dirigieren wird. Aus probentechnischen Gründen muss »The Cry of Anubis« für Tuba und Orchester von Harrison Birtwistle leider entfallen. Stattdessen werden die Konzerte mit der Egmont-Ouvertüre von Ludwig van Beethoven beginnen. Wenn ein Einzelner sich gegen die Menge stellt, nennt man das je nach den Umständen Individualismus, Revolution - oder Solokonzert. Ludwig van Beethoven war sowohl Individualist wie auch Revolutionär, vor allem aber trug er maßgeblich zur Entwicklung des Konzertes bei. Seine frühen Klavierkonzerte sind noch eher darauf angelegt, solistische Virtuosität zur Schau zu stellen. In Harrison Birtwistles »The Cry of Anubis« leiht die Tuba als Soloinstrument dem ägyptischen Totengott ihre mächtige Stimme. Sie steht dem Tutti jedoch nicht entgegen, sondern wird klanglich integriert. Eine wichtige Rolle spielt die Tuba, gemeinsam mit den anderen schweren Blechblasinstrumenten, auch in »Also sprach Zarathustra«. Richard Strauss verleiht so Nietzsches Philosophie vom Einzelnen, vom Übermenschen, einen überwältigenden sinfonischen Ausdruck.

Since 1908, the Laeiszhalle has been a meeting place for Hamburg's musical life. The neo-baroque Laeiszhalle Grand Hall accommodates over 2,000 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

Facilities for ladies are located behind the cloakrooms on all floors. Facilities for gentlemen can be found on the landing between the floors, also located behind the cloakrooms.
A fully accessible toilet for persons with mobility disabilities is located behind the cloakroom on the ground floor (Parkett links).

We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
