Er ist vielleicht der französischste unter den Pianisten: Eleganz, Esprit und Noblesse kennzeichnen Klavierspiel und Auftreten von Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Von der Londoner Designerin Vivienne Westwood ausgestattet, setzt er sich lässig ans Klavier und spielt mit seinen großen, federnd über die Klaviatur tanzenden Händen selbst die virtuosesten Passagen mühelos akkurat und klangsinnlich. Am Pult des NDR Sinfonieorchesters gibt der slowakische Dirigent Juraj Valčuha sein Debüt. Schüler der Petersburger Dirigentenlegende Ilya Musin, ist er derzeit Chefdirigent des Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI in Turin und regelmäßiger Gastdirigent bei so bedeutenden Orchestern wie den Münchner Philharmonikern, der Staatskapelle Dresden, dem Philharmonia Orchestra oder dem Orchestre de Paris. Im Konzertprogramm vereinen sich Kompositionen aus dem Länderdreieck Ungarn-Tschechien-Österreich: Der Ungar Zoltán Kodály setzte der Heimat seiner Jungend mit den »Tänzen aus Galánta« ein Denkmal. Der Tscheche Antonín Dvořák begab sich am Ende seiner Komponistenkarriere mit dem »Wassermann« auf das Gebiet der von Liszt einst erfundenen Sinfonischen Dichtung, wobei er sich – ebenso heimatverbunden – Stoffen einer tschechischen Folklore-Sammlung annahm. Und schließlich gab sich Richard Strauss mit seinem walzerbeschwingten »Rosenkavalier« ganz dem Wiener Charme hin. Seine »Rosenkavalier-Suite« macht zugleich den Auftakt zum Strauss-Jahr 2014.

Since 1908, the Laeiszhalle has been a meeting place for Hamburg's musical life. The neo-baroque Laeiszhalle Grand Hall accommodates over 2,000 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

Facilities for ladies are located behind the cloakrooms on all floors. Facilities for gentlemen can be found on the landing between the floors, also located behind the cloakrooms.
A fully accessible toilet for persons with mobility disabilities is located behind the cloakroom on the ground floor (Parkett links).

Please note: There are several construction sites in the immediate vicinity of the Laeiszhalle which may make it difficult to get to the concert. Please therefore plan enough time for your journey to the concert.
The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.
We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
