»For me, the greatest thing is to perform and work on the music by Bach! To come across his music, whether playing it on an instrument or hearing it on the radio, always gives me peace and strength.« This is how the violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann describes his personal experiences with Bach in an impressive television documentary.  The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra’s current Artist in Residence dedicates a whole evening to the composer, accompanied by the NDR Kammerorchester.

The two well-known violin concertos by Bach as well as a reconstruction of the Harpsicord Concerto BWV 1052 are presented with the brilliant early works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy for good reason. As Mendelssohn once said, »If there are similarities with Seb. Bach, then I cannot do anything about that. I simply wrote it as I felt it and when the words express sentiments like those of the old master, then I appreciate it even more.«
