NDR Jugendsinfonieorchester / Stefan Geiger
Ligeti / Bartók
Happening for 100 metronomes
The ARD Music Week from 20 to 26 March 2023 casts the spotlight on composer Györgi Ligeti (1923-2006), who spent many years as a composition teacher at the Hamburg College of Music, and had mixed Rumanian, Hungarian and Austrian roots. The NDR Jugendsinfonieorchester begins its programme with Ligeti’s happening-like »Poème Symphonique« for 100 metronomes (1963), and then invites us to experience his love of Rumanian folk music with the Concert Românesc. Members of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra make their own contribution to the programme with some expressive bagatelles for wind instruments. After the interval, Bartók’s popular and vigorous Concerto for Orchestra is performed.
