Please note: Due to illness, Yuja Wang unfortunately had to cancel her participation in this concert. Thankfully Tamara Stefanovich has agreed at short notice to take over in her place. The Finnish conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen has been a very regular visitor to the Elbphilharmonie since last season. As part of the two-year »Multiverse« series focused on his multi-faceted artistry, he now returns for two more concert projects in quick succession with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. In the first programme he is joined by the great pianist Tamara Stefanovich. Together, they present a new work by Salonen’s friend and compatriot Magnus Lindberg. The Finnish composer known for his sonorous works has written a new piano concerto as a commissioned work for NDR. With this kind of dream team gathered, an unforgettable musical experience is guaranteed!

And after the interval, there are two better-known but not overly familiar works: Anton Bruckner’s Sixth is like a criminally neglected stepchild among the master’s symphonies. Described by the composer himself as a »cheeky« one, the Sixth’s allure lies predominantly in its perfect blend of boldness and control, intellect and emotion. Perfect for a comprehensive artist like Esa-Pekka Salonen, in whose talent such characteristics are ideally combined.
