Omer Meir Wellber is currently performing one international orchestra debut after the other. And the young Israeli conductor can now be seen with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra for the first time. Daniel Barenboim’s former assistant is known for his experimental, passionate yet precise and authentic interpretations. He enthralled the audience of the Semperoper Dresden with a Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy in which he played the harpsichord, piano and accordion himself. It therefore comes as no surprise that he is also playing the harpsichord part in Alfred Schnittke’s Concerto Grosso No. 1, which is juxtaposed between a rarely heard Haydn symphony and Tchaikovsky’s Byron-inspired »Manfred« Symphony in a programme high in contrast.
