»I believe in music with roots«, Polish conductor and composer Krzysztof Penderecki once said. In  three of his works, performed this evening as part of the special focus series on Polish music, one feels this love for the past particularly clearly: the Polish composer chose a hymn by the abbot Hrabanus Maurus, an old melody found in a monastery archive and a Church Slavonic hymn as the basis for his works »Veni creator«, »Benedicamus domino« and »Song of Cherubim«.
