NDR Chamber Music Concert: Music for Winds
d’Indy / Roussel / Beethoven
With his Quintet Op. 16, Ludwig van Beethoven bowed in respect before his teacher and role model Mozart – and at the same time ventured into another direction. Thirteen years after Mozart had established the category of chamber music for wind instruments, the young Beethoven provided his own contribution to this genre. All who came after him had to allow themselves to be measured against this classic. Particularly in France, where music for wind instruments ensembles had had a special tradition, composers willingly as well as successfully did so – such as Vincent d’Indy and Albert Roussel.
