NDR Bigband / Geir Lysne
»Chromatic Aberration«
The two new ones in focus
In photography, »chromatic aberration« refers to the phenomenon in which optical lenses refract light of different wavelengths in varying intensities – which can result in obfuscated contour lines. With his new double concerto for the NDR Bigband, Geir Lysne sets off in search of a comparable acoustic phenomenon that opens up new perspectives on the sound of the NDR Bigband.
Besides the big band itself, the focus in this programme is on two musicians who still count among the new arrivals in the band: pianist Florian Weber and trumpeter Percy Pursglove. In addition to their extraordinary ability in the broad field of jazz and beyond, both also exhibit an exceptional interdisciplinary openness to scientific themes. Pursglove and Weber are two musicians well practised in allowing their gaze to wander in order to focus on other zones of reality – and even intentionally letting things remain out of focus every once in a while.
