Morton Feldman Marathon
»Greatest Hits« Festival
On the fourth day of the »Greatest Hits« Festival, staying power is called for! Amongst the audience (which can at least come and go as it pleases), and particularly amongst the members of the Calder Quartet, which will be performing Morton Feldman’s five-hour-long String Quartet No. 2. A rare opportunity that lovers of contemporary music shouldn’t miss!
The Calder Quartet was founded at the University of Southern California in 1998 and named after the American sculptor Alexander Calder. The group’s distinctive approach to music is exemplified by a musical curiosity brought to everything they perform, and thus have already become the first choice of many of today’s leading composers to perform their works. These include young emerging composers as well as the greats such as Terry Riley, David Lang, Thomas Adès and Péter Eötvös. Besides classical music, the quartet has a particular interest in rock music and has already recorded soundtracks for film and television.
