Matthias Goerne & Daniil Trifonov / Liederabend
Songs by Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms
High-drama duo
Famous pairs abound in music history – artists who mutually inspire each other to achieve outstanding musical feats, and who also often make music together in public. Over many years of playing together, singers and their piano accompanists often become well-coordinated teams who share an uncanny understanding on stage. However, exhilarating musical moments can also emerge when the singer and pianist reflect on their respective individuality and either – as in the case of baritone Matthias Goerne – seek a succession of partners or – as in the case of Daniil Trifonov – only very rarely enter into such close artistic relationships at all. »A high-drama duo that accepts no compromise, an ideally matched pair,« praised Tagesspiegel, while Spiegel talked about a »magical moment with two strong individualists who, in the most positive sense, interacted as if in a trance.«
