Mary Bevan / Benjamin Appl / Lieder Recital
Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival
The many facets of love are a recurring theme in the great Romantic song cycles. Considering that two people are always involved, it is quite surprising that these cycles were written, almost without exception, for a solo singer with piano accompaniment. The duet, which would have offered an opportunity for a man and a woman to engage in dialogue, did not really catch on. Therefore, it is all the more delightful that the charismatic German lieder singer Benjamin Appl gives two duet performances at this year’s Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. With the English soprano Mary Bevan, he interprets duets by the two close friends Schumann and Mendelssohn, as well as by Brahms.
