Martin Grubinger
Ishii / Aho / Psathas / Grubinger / Abe
Explosive, virtuoso and excessive – these are the right words to apply to the Austrian multi-percussionist, for whom this term was originally coined. »Listening to the young percussion virtuoso Martin Grubinger,« wrote Spiegel magazine, »you can easily imagine yourself on the set of an action film.« Just a few months after the Elbphilharmonie opened, the rhythm specialist surpassed every classical concert superlative with his programme »The Century of Percussion« in the Grand Hall. This season, he returns to Hamburg with his ensemble’s core line-up and Swedish pianist Per Rundberg. As usual, he has an impressive arsenal of instruments with him: drums large and small, cymbals, congas, bongos, marimba and xylophone – everything that can be struck with different kinds of stick or by hand is used to produce music.
