Martha Argerich Festival

Tang Xianzu’s opera »The Peony Pavilion« and William Shakespeare’s »Romeo and Juliet« were both written in the 1590s. The two works are depictions of a youthful, timeless love in which the boundary between life and death seems to have been abolished. This concert features a lovely, never-before-heard combination of Xianzu’s opera with traditional kunqu dancers and Prokofiev’s suite from »Romeo and Juliet« in an arrangement by Sergei Babayan, who gives a four-hand performance with Martha Argerich.
