Martha Argerich Festival
»To True Greatness«
The Symphoniker Hamburg has focused on large orchestrated chamber music for many seasons now: the pianist and composer Ohad Ben-Ari, connected to the Symphoniker through past collaborations, reworked Tchaikovsky’s monumental piano trio into a double concerto, helping it to become »truly grand«. Tchaikovsky himself found that he »sinned« with the smaller instrumentation and his trio should have been symphonic music. Schumann’s great audience favourite, his »Rhenish« symphony, rounds off the programme.
