Malakoff Kowalski
»My First Piano«
The title of Malakoff Kowalski’s new album is meant literally: Kowalski was born in Boston to Persian parents; he grew up in Hamburg, and now lives in Berlin. He came across the picture on the cover of his album »My First Piano« in an old family photo album. Kowalski set out in search of his childhood piano, which had since vanished, and managed to locate it and bring it back to Berlin 30 years later. »In my earliest childhood memories I’m lying rolled up under the piano stool, listening to my mother playing Bach and Brahms, Schubert and Scriabin.« Kowalski released his first album in 2009, and since then he has also been writing music for films and the theatre; with ten piano pieces that occupy the terrain between classical music and jazz, he now pays tribute to his very first piano.
