London Philharmonic Orchestra / Daniil Trifonov / Vladimir Jurowski
Prokofiev / Tchaikovsky
If one were able to choose the ingredients for an exciting concert at will, tonight’s programme might well be the outcome: one of the world’s best orchestras, a young pianist described in the press as »a magician of the keyboard with cult status«, a conductor bubbling with energy, and works by Russian composers full of passion and tension. Daniil Trifonov is without a doubt the perfect soloist to play Tchaikovsky’s monumental piano concerto, a piece that calls not only for absolute technical command on the interpreter’s part, but also for deep emotional insight. For the Russian master pianist, who never sees virtuosity as an end in itself, this goes without saying.
