»A voice that is as warm as a chair next to the fireplace offering a view of the snowstorm« – that is how German newspaper Die Welt described the American jazz and soul singer Lizz Wright after her performance at the Laeiszhalle. She now returns to Hamburg to sing for the first time with the WDR Big Band in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall.
There may not be snowstorms or fireplaces in Lizz Wright’s home, the American South, but the comparison is appropriate because her singing is soulful and silky, sensitive and spiritual. The preacher’s daughter came into contact with music at an early age. As a child she sang in the church choir, the family listened to gospel in the home, and she has stayed true to the genres of gospel, soul, blues and jazz to this day. Her first project with the WDR Big Band »Here and Now« is conducted by Vince Mendoza.
