Lieder Recital: Jonas Kaufmann
Rescheduled Concert from 22 February
He is THE star tenor of our times: Jonas Kaufmann delights his fans with brilliant interpretations of the great opera characters from Verdi and Wagner to Puccini. And yet he is also a passionate advocate of the lieder recital’s intimate format.
»For me a lieder recital is a kind of dialogue between the singer and the accompanist. It comes alive, feeding from the poetry of the moment and continuously yielding new nuances of sound,« explains Kaufmann. Since his student days, Kaufmann has been good friends with the sensational lieder accompanist Helmut Deutsch. They have performed several lieder recitals together and released highly acclaimed CD recordings.
The duo’s recital opens with the pioneer of song, Franz Schubert, followed by the wonderful Petrarchan sonnet by Franz Liszt, the high-Romantic lieder of Richard Strauss and the French Henri Duparc, whose »Mélodies« reflected the influences of impressionism early on.
