Les Siècles / François-Xavier Roth
2. Internationales Musikfest Hamburg
François-Xavier Roth is hailed as one of the most charismatic and enterprising conductors among the period performance specialists. Over the last ten years, Roth and his ensemble »Les Siècles« have worked together, rediscovering a unique, elegant sound for historically informed performance ranging from J.S. Bach to Stravinsky.
With François-Xavier Roth at its helm dispensing his widely-acknowledged expertise, »Les Siècles« is most in its element in the impressionistic and late romantic music from the turn of the 20th century. Performing on period instruments from an era characterised by atmosphere and the new freedom of both subjectivity and reality, Roth and his ensemble present innovative interpretations of the ballet music composed by Stravinsky and Ravel for the legendary Parisian ballet ensemble »Ballets Russes«, founded in 1909.
For their colourful recording of Stravinsky’s ballet »The Firebird« using period instruments, François-Xavier Roth and »Les Siècles« were awarded the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (Germany). They will partner with the Pina Bausch Company for danced performances of Stravinsky’s »The Rite of Spring« in Summer 2016.
