Les Arts Florissants / William Christie / Paul Agnew
40th Anniversary
What a fine-sounding name: »Les Arts Florissants« – the flourishing arts! Founded exactly 40 years ago in Paris by William Christie, this vocal and instrumental ensemble is one of the world’s leading early music formations. The Assistant Director of Music alongside Christie since 2007 has been British tenor Paul Agnew, and the two of them can now be heard in Hamburg with »A Baroque Odyssee«. On the programme of the ensemble’s debut in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall are excerpts from operas by Rameau, Lully, Charpentier, Purcell – and Handel. William Christie and Paul Agnew share the conducting duties, and Sandrine Piau is among the vocal soloists.
