Kammermusikfest / Chamber Music Festival
Schubert / Mendelssohn
Never before has so much chamber music been played in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall at one go: to mark the beginning of their 2018/19 season, the Hamburg Kammermusikfreunde (Friends of Chamber Music) are putting on a five-hour festival featuring chamber music in all its forms and facets. From solo recital to chamber orchestra, from young prizewinners to the 94-year-old pianist Menahem Pressler, from Bach, Mendelssohn and Schubert to Shostakovich, opera and tango – there’s more than enough variety! There is even a professional whistler on the list of artists: Nikolaus Habjan is one of the best of his kind, and regularly appears together with world-class orchestras like the Vienna Philharmonic. The guest of honour is Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, Auschwitz survivor, cellist and co-founder of the English Chamber Orchestra.
