Violin sounds from another world
At the Rising Stars festival, emerging young artists present their skills over one whole week, entertaining Hamburg audiences with breath-taking virtuosity, artistic maturity and personal concert programmes. The Hungarian violinist Júlia Pusker has gained an international following with her »electrifying playing and a sound that’s from another world« (De Standaard).
Pusker now presents a diverse programme that gets straight down to business with music by the Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. Music by other violin virtuosos such as Paganini seem almost pale in comparison to his work, with its spectacular technical challenges.
Pusker then heads eastwards with melodies by Prokofiev, and gives free rein to her creativity in Bartók’s Rhapsody.
After the interval, there are brand-new sounds by Eric Tanguy and Franz Schubert’s Fantasie to close. With a great dramatic arc and deep expressiveness, this work challenges the often-shallow salon music of Schubert’s age, but still offers the violin plenty of opportunity to shine.
