Julia Kadel Trio
Jazz Piano
No mean debut: as the first German jazz artist in 60 years, Julia Kadel has recorded two albums for the legendary Blue Note label. But the pianist, who was born in Berlin-Kreuzberg in 1986, recorded her latest album, entitled »Kaskaden«, at the historic MPS Studios in the Black Forest, where none other than Oscar Peterson once sat at the keyboard. Julia Kadel can be heard at the Laeiszhalle tonight together with the other members of her trio in the series »Jazz Piano«.
The Julia Kadel Trio has caused quite a stir in the last few years. In 2015 it was nominated for the Echo Jazz prize in the category »Newcomer of the Year«, while Julia Kadel herself was nominated as »Female Instrumentalist of the Year«. The trio’s sound is marked by a nimble alternation between composition and improvisation, between form and freedom, poetry and strictness.
»Improvising is such a tremendous experience because you have every possibility in the world all the time,« Julia Kadel enthuses. »There are three musicians searching for energy at the same time in a constant process of the moment. The more you just let things happen, the higher the probability that something magical will occur.«
