Jóhann Jóhannsson / Sphere Iceland
Into Iceland Festival / Please note the new start time!
The music of Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson doesn’t fit into any conventional genre. It wavers between ambient and contemporary classical music, and the interaction of acoustic instruments with electronic sounds. After nearly five years spent concentrating entirely on film and theatre soundtracks, Jóhannsson released his debut album »Orphée« on the Deutsche Grammophon label in autumn 2016. In the NDR Kultur Neo club concert as part of the festival »Into Iceland«, Jóhann Jóhannsson and his ensemble present this new project as an audiovisual night-time experience.
Jóhannsson’s experience as a musician ranges from punk and dark metal to baroque music and contemporary avant-garde. With the music that he forges from this broad stylistic spectrum, he attracts audiences all over the world that love musical adventures and new discoveries.
First performances of Jóhannsson’s works have been given by the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and the New York ensemble Bang on a Can. The composer has received two Oscar nominations for his film music, and his soundtrack to »The Theory of Everything« was awarded a Golden Globe in 2015.
The concert will be broadcast live on NDR Kultur Neo.
