Romantic entanglements
The story based on the novel »Menahem Mendel« by Scholem Aleichem delivers convoluted love tangles of the highest order. Insurance agent Menahem Mendel isn’t earning enough in his home city of Berdychiv so he sets off to make his fortune in Odessa. There, as luck would have it, a list of rich daughters who want to get married falls into his hands. Mendel sees his opportunity, and arranges a marriage for the daughter of the rich Kimbak from Berdychiv. She, however, loves the poor devil Salman, who now works as Mendel’s assistant… and the comedy takes its course.
